Hardness of printing press rollers

The hardness of printing press rollers is measured using a durometer, which is a device that measures the depth of an indentation made on the surface of the roller. Here are the steps to measure the hardness of your printing press rollers using a durometer:

Clean the roller: Clean the roller thoroughly to remove any ink or debris on the surface that could affect the measurement.

Select the right durometer: There are different types of durometers available, depending on the hardness of the material being measured. Choose a durometer with a scale that is appropriate for the hardness of your printing press rollers.

Position the durometer: Place the durometer perpendicularly on the surface of the roller, ensuring that it is level and stable. Use a steady hand and moderate pressure to press the durometer against the roller.

Take the reading: Read the measurement on the durometer scale, which indicates the depth of the indentation made on the roller surface. The higher the reading, the harder the roller.

Take multiple readings: To ensure accuracy, take multiple readings at different locations on the roller surface, and calculate an average value.

By measuring the hardness of your printing press rollers, you can ensure that they are within the proper range for your printing needs. If you find that the rollers are too hard or too soft, you may need to replace them to achieve the best printing results.
